List of 36 illegal schools closed by Cross River State Government

CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Government of Cross River State has closed 36 schools deemed illegal to operate due to their inability to meet basic educational standards, and unapproval by the government.

The enforcement exercise is being carried out by a Taskforce set up by the State Ministry of Education.

The Taskforce, inaugurated earlier this month by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Stephen Odey, began full-scale operations in the Calabar, Ikom, and Ogoja Educational Zones.

The exercise, part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to sanitise the education sector and uphold quality learning standards, resulted in the closure of several schools found to be operating without government approval.

The affected schools are as follows:

1. Destiny Group of Schools, Obutong

The Taskforce reiterated that the Ministry will not compromise on educational standards, emphasising that only schools duly approved by the Ministry are authorised to operate.

Parents and guardians were strongly advised to verify the approval status of schools before enrolling their children. The Ministry further noted that the ongoing enforcement exercise will continue across all 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State.
