CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – A mechanic allegedly test-running a customer’s vehicle (Lexus SUV) has crashed into a minibus in Calabar, Cross River State.
The ugly incident happened on Saturday night at the popular Diamond Junction, Murtala Mohammed Highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the mechanic was trying to turn at the Diamond Junction at high speed when he rammed into the commercial minibus.
“… the driver of the Lexus SUV, identified as a mechanic, was test-driving a recently repaired vehicle when the crash happened. While attempting to turn from the Highway into the Navy Barracks, the mechanic sped into the path of an oncoming minibus,” a source, Denis Inakefe, said.

The source also stated that no life was lost, but several persons onboard both vehicles sustained a high degree of injuries.
“Thankfully, no lives were lost but several passengers and both drivers sustained serious injuries,” Inakefe added.

He also recalled the tragic accident that claimed the life of a power biker, Lasisi, at the same junction.
Inakefe called for the urgent installation of traffic lights at the junction to avoid another occurrence.
“Today’s accident calls for the urgent need for the installation of traffic lights at this increasingly dangerous intersection.
“Authorities, particularly those in charge of traffic control, are strongly urged to take immediate action to prevent further loss of life,” he maintained.
