C’River Lawmaker Mercy Akpama empowers constituents with business grants, POS machines

The member representing Yakurr 2 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Mercy Akpama, has empowered two constituents with business grants, including two Point of Service (POS) machines.

The empowerment which was held during the Female Legislators Outreach at Nko on 12th October 2024, had Mr Solomon Onen Ofem (from Nko Community) and
Ms Komommo Ude Onun (from the Mkpani Community) benefit from the grant in a monetary value of N200,000.

The N200,000 business grant, N100,000 each for the beneficiaries would help provide vital support to two constituents who, despite being active and thriving in their businesses, had faced financial setbacks.

The outreach was sponsored by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), United Nations Women and the Government of Canada.

Overjoyed by the benevolence act of Hon. Akpama, the beneficiaries promised to put the grant to good use.

They thanked the Lawmaker for not only helping them restart their businesses but also providing them with modern tools to enhance their operations.

This outreach, which empowers small business owners, is a testament to Hon. Akpama’s proactive leadership and focus on economic development in Yakurr 2.

Hon. Akpama’s approach to governance is built on a foundation of supporting grassroots economic initiatives. By giving business owners the resources to recover from financial challenges, she is directly addressing the economic needs of her constituency and encouraging self-reliance and growth. This empowerment programme is just one of many steps she has taken to ensure that the people of Yakurr 2 continue to thrive, even in the face of adversity.

CONVERSEER reports that the initiative is part of her ongoing commitment to foster entrepreneurial growth and economic stability among her constituents.
