Nigeria is looking to partner with India to accelerate its energy transition, seeking both funding and technical assistance to implement its green energy initiatives, a senior Nigerian government official said on Tuesday.
As part of its own energy transformation, India plans to connect a record 35 gigawatts of solar and wind energy capacity to its grid by March 2025.
Nigeria hopes to tap into India’s expertise to expand renewable energy solutions and improve electricity access, particularly for communities not connected to the national grid.
Nigeria has also appealed to the United States for financial support to fast-track its transition away from fossil fuels.
The country’s power grid remains fragile, plagued by frequent failures, under-investment, and vandalism, leading to regular blackouts.
Alternative energy sources are seen as a key solution to addressing energy poverty in Nigeria and ensuring more stable electricity supply.
