Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has assured the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC that Abia operates a policy of inclusion with “no state of origin” barrier for residents and Corps Members serving in the state.

The Governor gave the assurance on Tuesday, 14th July 2026, while receiving the State Coordinator, NYSC Abia, Yunusa Tanimu, and his team on a courtesy visit to his country home in Isialangwa South LGA.

Welcoming the NYSC delegation, Otti thanked the State Coordinator for his kind words and for identifying with the people of Abia state.

“In Abia State, we do not have anything like state of origin. Once you live here, you are part of us. Whatever is due to anyone is due for you too,” the Governor stated.

“We see Corps Members as part of us. Whatever we can do to make their stay in the state comfortable, that we will always do.”

Responding to Tanimu’s request for the speedy, and full implementation of the approved State Allowance for Corps Members, Governor Otti expressed shock that the payment had not been fully effected despite funds already been provided for.

He directed relevant government officials to resolve all bottlenecks immediately and ensure Corps Members are paid without further delay.

“I am happy to see your written address. I will take time to go through it to see how we can tackle them, as funds are available,” the Governor said, while congratulating the Coordinator on his new appointment.

Earlier in his address, Tanimu congratulated Governor Otti on his numerous achievements in three years of leading Abia State.

He noted that NYSC Abia has been a major beneficiary of the Governor’s goodwill, citing the approval of a new Corps allowance, the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp, and the new office complex and the tarring of the internal road network in the camp, among other numerous supports to the scheme.

The Coordinator, however appealed for the full and immediate implementation of the new allowance for corps members, the commencement of phase two of the renovation of orientation camp, and support for other critical projects.

He further appealed for the donation of an ambulance to the NYSC Secretariat, stressing its importance to the Scheme’s operations, and the rehabilitation of the State Coordinator’s residence as a more cost-effective option.

Tanimu assured the Governor that NYSC Abia would continue to support the administration with skilled manpower of Corps Members in healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure at minimal cost to the state government.

In a vote of thanks, on behalf of NYSC, the Assistant Director, AD, Deployment and Relocation, Mrs. Helen Anyaeze, appreciated the Governor for hosting the Scheme and for the consistent support that has led to increased retention of Corps Members posted to Abia State instead of seeking relocation.
