Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) G6 governorship aspirants in Oyo State have dismissed claims by Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Ali that the group has agreed to drop their ambition and embrace reconciliation.
The G6 said the Senator was “jumping the gun” by assuming that the group and their supporters have reneged on their aspiration ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The group, in a statement, said as loyal party members, they remained committed to the victory of the APC and “are ready to work with whoever President Bola Tinubu picks as the consensus candidate.
“We are good partymen and we will be pleased to work for the victory of the party with anyone that Asiwaju Tinubu picks as the consensus candidate.
“Oyo State APC is yet to have a governorship candidate and Senator Sarafadeen Alli who has been parading himself as the candidate of our great party is living in delusion.
“While G6 is committed to the success of our party in the 2027 general elections, we insist that the process must be reviewed to bring up a concensus which will ensure the emergence of a candidate that most party members will accept and support.
“Not an aspirant that is using propaganda in his bid to impose himself as the candidate of the party.”
The G6 maintained that the APC remains “one indivisible family with a strong electoral profile” and insisted that their position has not changed. They stressed that their demand is for a credible consensus process to be engineered by President Tinubu.
However, Ali, who is the Oyo South Senator and a governorship aspirant, had earlier told journalists at “A Day With BSA” hosted by NUJ, Oyo Council in Ibadan, that reconciliation moves were already in progress.
He disclosed that he had met with one of the G6 members on Monday morning who delivered a message assuring that the group would cooperate with the reconciliation process. Ali also said he was in Abuja days ago with another aspirant discussing how to make progress ahead of 2027.
“On my part, I have also been going round to reconcile with members, both the governorship, and the senatorial. I can tell you this party is going to resolve all that you think is crisis,” Alli said.
