Most times in politics, the loudest political announcement ends in the most embarrassing anticlimax. This is precisely the story of David Asim Agbor, former Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Etung Chapter.
Barely six days after he was reportedly cajoled into joining the PDP in Etomi Ward of Etung Local Government Area, Agbor has retraced his steps to the APC, apparently having discovered that the promises that lured him away were fabricated lies not worth the political gamble.

Receiving him at his residence in Calabar, a prominent ward leader and apostle of “Politics Without Bitterness,” Barr. Gilbert Agbor, Special Adviser to Governor Otu on Asset Management and Recovery, said David’s swift return was a welcome demonstration of courage and political maturity. For the PDP, however, it is a case of premature celebration. Its recruitment drive barely survived a week. The party fired a shot and announced a hit, only to discover that the target had never been secured!
“We welcome David Asim Agbor back to the APC fold. His return is a reminder that sometimes, the shortest political journey teaches the longest lesson,” the Special Adviser said.
“You just escaped a fatal crash, because you were going to board an airplane that its pilot just jumped out, a total crash was inevitable for you. But I thank God you escaped on time.
Gilbert commended the former PDP State Party Chairman, Barr. Venatius Ikem, whom he described as very wise, smart and intelligent, for his timely resignation, and that the doors of the party ore widely open to welcome him. He thanked Asim for retracing his steps.
He assured them and others yet to come that Cross River State, ably led that Sen. Prince Bassey Otu is in save hands, and the governor is very intentional with his “people first” mantra. Otu is doing exceedingly well, he said, and that very soon, as his approach to governance, the sacrifices and struggles he has made begins to bear fruit, the state will once again take its place of pride amongst other states.

The former NYCN Chairman said it was not a defection but merely a case of falling to the devil’s temptation to embark on a six-day protest against his family. He expressed gratitude for the swift response and combined efforts of Barr. Gilbert and Dr. Cyril Abang Agbor, Head of the Department of Anatomy at the University of Calabar, who was also present to receive him. He noted that their intervention quickly opened his eyes and that they had continued to demonstrate the rare qualities of contemporary leaders. He assured them of his total commitment and loyalty.

Present to add colour and energy to the event were Dr. Mrs. Blessing Egbara, the APC candidate for Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency; Mr. Isek James, the State Secretary of the APC; and university don Dr. Emmanuel Awubi.
Other eminent party stakeholders present were the former APC Chapter Chairman of Obubra, Mr. Denis Egor; Mr. Nsiyan Ogar Okey (Dubest); and Mr. George Sunday.
