The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two suspects regarding an alleged murder incident reported in Afokang community, Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, the alleged matter was reported on Tuesday by a Correctional officer in the area.
“At approximately 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, 9th June 2026, information was received from a Correctional officer in the area that members of the community had apprehended persons suspected to be connected to a murder incident.
“Upon arrival at the scene, police officers from Efut Division took custody of one male and one female suspect.
“Preliminary interrogation was conducted, during which both suspects denied any knowledge or involvement in any murder,” the statement read in part.
ASP Eitokpah further stated that no corpse was found at the reported location, as widely shared on social media.
“No corpse was found at the reported location. However, traces of blood were observed around a soakaway pit. One of the suspects claimed that the blood originated from an old injury sustained on his leg.
“Given the circumstances and the need for a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts, the suspects and the case file have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
“Investigations are ongoing. Further updates will be provided as credible facts emerge,” he added.
