President John Dramani Mahama has issued a directive prohibiting government appointees from engaging in any form of mining, whether legal or illegal, effective immediately.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative,’ Mahama emphasized that any official wishing to pursue mining-related ventures must first resign from their government position.
Reaffirming his administration’s stance against illegal mining, he warned that violators of this directive would face strict consequences, including dismissal.
He also directed security and regulatory agencies to intensify efforts to combat illegal mining, noting recent progress in reclaiming seven out of nine heavily affected forest reserves.
The move underscores the government’s commitment to environmental conservation and the fight against illegal mining, which has severely impacted Ghana’s natural resources.
