Reality TV star Jax Taylor has made a deeply personal revelation, admitting that he has battled a cocaine addiction for half his life. The 45-year-old former Vanderpump Rules star shared his struggles on Tuesday’s episode of the Hot Mic podcast, candidly addressing his past as he prepares for Season 2 of The Valley.

Taylor described addiction as a “really tough disease” and acknowledged the challenges of overcoming it. He stated that publicly admitting his struggle and recognizing his addiction as an illness he must manage for the rest of his life was a major step for him.

The reality star proudly announced that he has been sober for 83 days from both cocaine and alcohol—the longest period he has gone without substances since he was 21 years old. He revealed that his cocaine addiction began at 23 and has been an ongoing battle ever since.

Although he does not believe he has an addiction to alcohol, Taylor admitted that drinking often accompanied his drug use, which is why he decided to quit both. He attended rehab twice, noting that his second attempt was more successful because he was personally ready to make the change.

Taylor recalled a pivotal moment when he decided to seek help—an episode of uncontrollable rage in front of his son, Cruz, whom he shares with his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright. The incident left him feeling “utter disgust” with himself, prompting him to seek inpatient treatment in July 2024. Following his rehab stay, he revealed he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD.

On the podcast, Taylor emphasized that drugs and alcohol are rarely the root cause of addiction, stating that people often turn to substances to cope with deeper issues. Now, with a proper diagnosis and a commitment to sobriety, he is focused on leading a healthier, more present life.
