Many people believe that the upgrade range of Sony PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro for short) is relatively limited and it is difficult to convince players to upgrade.
According to Tech4Gamers, even PlayStation’s chief designer Mark Cerny has publicly stated that PS5 Pro and its PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology are actually accumulating technology and preparing for Sony’s next-generation game console.
According to IT Home, the new technology used on PS5 Pro, especially PSSR, seems to be still in the experimental stage. This technology has exposed some problems in actual application, including the possible decline in-game image quality and unstable performance.
Mark Cerny made it clear that technologies such as machine learning and PSSR on the PS5 Pro are an important step for Sony to pave the way for the next generation of game consoles.
His remarks imply that the PS5 Pro is largely a pre-layout for the future PlayStation 6 (tentatively called PS6) so that the latter can apply these advanced technologies more maturely and perfectly.
“It’s been great to dive into different aspects of machine learning and build up knowledge about it because we know for sure that’s where the future is going,” Cerny said.
However, while the PS5 Pro may not offer as much of an upgrade as expected, it has its own advantages. Sony claims that it is very easy to develop games for it and there is a direct upgrade path. At the same time, it is undeniable that the PS5 Pro is still the most powerful game console.
PSSR has received mixed reviews so far, but Sony has promised to continue improving the technology, and the company even said its super-resolution technology will be in tip-top shape by the time the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is released.
The developer of the game “War Thunder” said in an interview with Tech4Gamers that PSSR has great potential and its performance is comparable to Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS.
