African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) are tracking his movements in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he is attending the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference.
Sowore made the allegation in a post on X on Tuesday, saying an electronic tracking device was discovered underneath a security vehicle used by his team.
He said the discovery was made after he and his associates noticed what he described as “strange movements” following his appearance at a gathering organised by the Kay Hikers group.
According to Sowore, the team decided to switch vehicles after becoming suspicious of the movements around them.
“The lawless @OfficialDSSNG has apparently been tracking my movements since I arrived in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference,” Sowore wrote.
“After my speech at the Kay Hikers gathering, we noticed some strange movements and decided to switch vehicles. That was when we discovered an electronic tracking device attached underneath the security vehicle we had used that night.
“They are really scared!”
Sowore accompanied the post with a video showing the electronic device recovered from underneath the vehicle.

However, there was no evidence in the post establishing that the device was planted by the DSS.
The allegation comes a day after Sowore delivered a speech at the ongoing NBA conference in Port Harcourt, where he launched a fresh attack on Nigerian politicians and their records in government.
At the conference, Sowore criticised former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as well as former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, over their positions on fuel subsidy and their records while in office.
Amaechi is the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while Obi is the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Sowore, who is seeking to contest the 2027 presidential election, said he had consistently opposed the removal of fuel subsidies and accused politicians of changing their positions on the issue.
“If there’s anyone who has been consistent about not removing our subsidies, it has been me. And it took Amaechi and his principal (Atiku Abubakar) almost 10 years to catch up with me,” he said.
“They have now reversed their position on subsidies.”
He argued that the subsidy debate should focus on who benefits from government policies, insisting that ordinary Nigerians suffered from the removal of the petrol subsidy.
“The question about subsidies is: Who are you subsidising? You are subsidising the elite. You are subsidising the government,” he said.
Sowore also criticised state governments over the increased federal allocations following the removal of the subsidy, saying, “The only people who are doing well since they removed subsidies are the governments of states.”
He further attacked successive administrations for repeatedly removing subsidies while promising Nigerians better economic conditions.
“I was a student in 1988. And in 1989, they removed subsidies. In 1990, they removed subsidies. They said Nigeria will be better.
“We are in 2026. They are still removing subsidies,” he said.
Sowore also accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of shifting the economic burden onto Nigerians, saying, “They are robbing Peter Obi to pay for Bola Tinubu.”
He subsequently challenged politicians who had previously occupied public offices to account for their records.
Sowore also challenged Amaechi’s performance as governor of Rivers State, raising concerns about the metro line project initiated during his administration.
“We have a former governor, Rivers State, Amaechi, who built the railway line that went nowhere,” he said.
“If that rail line was working, subsidy would have been working for the people of Rivers State.”
He also criticised Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, alleging that workers in the education and health sectors embarked on prolonged strikes during his tenure.
“Peter Obi did not subsidise education in his state. Lecturers and doctors went on strike for 13 months,” Sowore said.
“You may like him as a person, but he did not perform as a governor.”
Sowore’s latest allegation against the DSS comes amid his continued criticism of government policies and security agencies as he prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Sowore is on trial by the DSS at the Federal High Court in Abuja over cybercrime and defamation charges related to social media posts.
Sowore made a post online in August 2025 calling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a “criminal”.
The DSS charged him with cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and criminal defamation under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act. Meta and X were later removed from the case, leaving Sowore as the sole defendant.
