Sowore Returns To Court As DSS Director Tosin Ajayi Faces Cross-Examination In ‘Tinubu Is A Criminal’ Trial

A major highlight of Tuesday’s proceedings is the expected appearance of the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi, who is scheduled to testify and face cross-examination as part of the ongoing trial.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore,  appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday as proceedings continue in the controversial case instituted against him by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his statement that “Tinubu is a criminal.”

The case, which has drawn significant public attention, is before Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

A major highlight of Tuesday’s proceedings is the expected appearance of the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi, who is scheduled to testify and face cross-examination as part of the ongoing trial.

The case stems from allegations by the DSS over comments made by Sowore referring to President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal,” a statement that the security agency considered actionable, leading to legal proceedings against the presidential candidate and publisher.

Tuesday’s hearing is expected to focus on the cross-examination of DSS Director Tosin Ajayi by Sowore’s legal team.

Sowore, a long-time government critic and activist, has consistently maintained that the charges against him are politically motivated and constitute an attack on freedom of expression and dissent.

The trial has attracted widespread interest from civil society organisations, lawyers, political observers, and human rights advocates, who are closely monitoring the proceedings because of their potential implications for free speech, press freedom, and democratic rights in Nigeria.

Justice Mohammed Umar is expected to continue hearing the matter on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where both the prosecution and the defence are expected to present their respective arguments as the case progresses.
