Thugs suspected to be working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) have allegedly diverted election materials meant for two Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Imo State.
According to the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Imo State, Athan Achonu on Saturday, November 11, 2023, the electoral materials were hijacked and diverted to a private residence in the Orlu Local Government Area of the state.
Achonu alleged that electoral materials meant for the Okigwe council area were hijacked by the thugs and taken to the local government headquarters.
According to Sahara Reporters, Achonu’s spokesperson, Chibuikem in a brief statement alleged that in Orlu, electoral materials meant for seven wards were hijacked by APC members and diverted to the palace of the traditional ruler of the Amaifeke community, Emmanuel Okeke.

He said in the statement, “The report we are getting from the special assignment room is disturbing. In Orlu, a total of seven wards LG materials were hijacked and diverted to the Palace of Eze Imo who is also the Eze of Amaifeke.
“In Okigwe, all the election containers gathered at the stadium while election materials moved to the local government secretariat where no other agent is allowed in except APC.”
However, the spokesperson for the APC in the state, Cajetan Duke, denied the allegations.
