The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer, barely three months after Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid assumed the position.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the outgoing spokesperson, Placid, who described Iniedu as an experienced officer with a strong background in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, administration and institutional accountability.

Iniedu, an indigene of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has attended several professional courses in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, strategic communication, intelligence analysis and human rights-based policing.

Before his appointment, he headed the Complaint Response Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated the management of public complaints and spearheaded initiatives aimed at improving transparency, accountability and public confidence in the police.

He also previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, among other operational and administrative roles.

According to the statement, Iniedu has held several strategic positions within the Force, including Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he oversaw the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information across the country.

The statement said the Inspector-General expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department, noting that his wealth of experience would strengthen the Force’s strategic communication and deepen public engagement in line with ongoing policing reforms.

Iniedu succeeds Placid, who was appointed Force spokesperson on March 8, 2026, following the exit of Benjamin Hundeyin from the role.
