Calabar, Nigeria – The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has obtained a formal approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish a College of Education.
This information was conveyed in a letter issued to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar by the NUC Acting Director, Academic Planning, onbehalf of the Acting Executive Secretary, Abubakar Girei.
The proposed College of Education is expected to house the Faculty of Science Education, Faculty of Arts & Social Science Education, Faculty of Educational Foundation Studies and Faculty of Vocational and Entrepreneurial Education.
Following the approval, the already approved programmes offered in the defunct faculty of Education under the auspices of their respective departments are to be moved without delay to the newly approved College of Education.
The decision is coming on the heels of a facility verification visit conducted by a panel of Experts from December 17-24, 2024 to ascertain the University’s preparedness in terms of availability of physical resources, to establish the proposed academic units.
This is a dream come true for the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, who had pledged to elevate the defunct faculty of Education to a College.
