ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

GENERAL

Candidates seeking for admission into all the programmes of the University of Cross River State must possess a minimum of 5 credits including English Language and four other relevant subjects obtained at not more than two sittings. Candidates with ‘0’ Level Examination results for 2015 or before must present original copies of their certificates. Statements of results and/or Result Slips will not be accepted.
In all cases, written letters of permission from employers are necessary requirement for workers seeking for admission.

In addition to the general requirements, candidates are expected to fulfill the specific requirements in their chosen areas of study for the different programmes as follows:

(A) DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

(i) A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Third Class Honours in the relevant field of study from the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.

(ii) A Higher National diploma (HND) at a minimum of Lower Credit level in the relevant field of study obtained from any Institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.

(iii) Additional provisions for admission into some Postgraduate Diploma programmes are as follows:

(a) Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics and Extension(PGD – AEE).
A Bachelor’s degree or HND as specified in the entry requirements (A)(i) in Economics, Sociology or Sociology and Anthropology may be also admitted.

(b) Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Science/Animal Fish & Wildlife Health Management.
A Bachelor’s degree or HND as specified in (A)(i), (A)(ii) in any of the related subject disciplines (Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Genetics and Breeding, etc.) may be accepted. However, only the Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science/Animal Health is acceptable for the PGD in Animal Science.

(c) Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
A Higher National Diploma (HND) at Lower Credit level in any discipline from any Institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS may also be accepted.

(d) Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (PGD – EE)
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Second Class, Lower Division in Physics, Mathematics and/or Physics/Electronics obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS may also be accepted.

(e) Postgraduate Diploma in Civil and Mechanical Engineering
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Third Class Honours in the relevant field of study from the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.

(f) Postgraduate Diploma in Wood Products Engineering
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Third Class Honours in the relevant field of study from the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.

(g) Postgraduate Diploma in Biological Sciences Programmes (PGD – M.CB, AEB AND PSB)
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, Microbiology and Biochemistry OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the Agricultural Sciences at Second Class, Lower Division obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS may also be accepted.
– Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology
– Postgraduate Diploma in Animal and Environmental Biology
– Postgraduate Diploma in Plant Science and Biotechnology
The three Departments now operate PGD certificates in their separate disciplines. Students should specify the applicable discipline.

(h) Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics (PGD-M) and Statistics (PGD – S).
A Bachelor’s degree in any field of Physical Sciences or related subject disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering Physics, Engineering, etc). obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICOSS OR Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Lower Credit level in the field of Physical Sciences or related subject disciplines as above obtained from any Institution accredited by NBTE and recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS may also be accepted.

(I) Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Second Class, Lower Division in any other related discipline obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS may also be accepted.

(j) Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Planning (PGD – LP)
A Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Lower Credit Level from any accredited Institution OR Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or Engineering Sciences and Social Sciences may also be accepted.

(k) Postgraduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning (PGD – URP)
Same as the requirements for (PGD – LP). Additionally, HND (Lower Credit OR Bachelor’s Degree in Law may be accepted.




(l) PGD in Biochemistry
Bachelor’s degree holder or HND in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Technology, Education Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Science Laboratory Technology and other related fields who graduated with a minimum of Lower Credit, Pass and a minimum CGPA of 2.75.

(m) Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry. Same as in (a) above

(n) Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science
Candidates with Third Class degree or HND (Upper Credit) in any Science
related field from any recognized Institution.

(o) Postgraduate Diploma in Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and Physiology
Is available to Candidates with Third Class, Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry, Physiology and Radiography and other relevant field in the faculty of Basic
Medical Science.

(B) MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The general requirements are as indicated in items (i) – (iii) below:

(i) A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Second Class, Lower Division Level (with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale or 3.00 on a 5 – point scale) in the relevant field or its equivalent obtained from UNICOSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICOSS

(ii) A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Third Class Honours plus a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale or 3.00 on a 5.0 point scale) in the relevant field obtained from UNICOSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICOSS.

(iii) A Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Lower Credit Level (minimum CGPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale or 3.00 on a 5.0 point scale) in the relevant field of study obtained from any Institution accredited by NBTE and recognized by the Senate of UNICOSS plus a Postgraduate Diploma (minimum CGPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale or 3.0 on a 5. Point scale) in the relevant field of study obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.




There are special cases of Masters degrees with modified or different requirements for admission as follows:

SPECIAL CASES

(i) M.Sc. Degree in Agriculture
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Second Class, Lower Division level (minimum CGPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale or 3.00 on a 5.0 – point scale) in any field of Agriculture or related subject disciplines (Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Genetics and Breeding, etc.)

(ii) M.Sc. Degree in Mass Communication
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Second Class, Lower Division (minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 – point scale) in any field of Communication (Journalism, Agricultural Journalism, Communication Studies, Communication Arts, etc) from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS
Candidates with a CGPA lower than 3.00 may be considered upon evidence of outstanding professional practice.

(iii) M.Sc. in Science Education and Technical Education.
The Candidates’ Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma as specified in the entry requirements (B)(i), (ii) and (iii) must be in Natural/Applied Sciences, or Engineering, Technology Education or any related discipline.

(iv) M.Ed. Degree
The candidates’ Bachelor’s degree or HND as specified in the entry requirements (B) (i),(ii) and (iii)) maybe in any discipline.
M. Ed. in Philosophy of Education
5 Credits O’level in SSCE subjects including English and Maths.
B. Ed degree in any recognized University with a 2/1 or a sound 2/2.
First degree in Philosophy or any other academic discipline with a PGDE.

(v) M.Tech in Architecture
Candidates with Second Class Honors Lower Division will be admitted into the M.Tech Architecture programme and this shall be based strictly on their CGPA and conformity with the professional requirements for admission,

(vi) Ph.D Science Education
Candidates must have M.Ed degree in the area of specialization in education with a minimum of 4.00 CGPA or 60%.




(vii) M.Eng. Degrees in Electrical Electronics Engineering
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Second Class, Upper Division in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or its equivalent obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum of Second Class, Lower Division in any of the Physical Sciences (Physics, Mathematics and/or Physics/Electronics) plus a PGD in the relevant field obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.
OR
A Higher National Diploma at a minimum of Upper Credit level in Electrical and /or Electronic Engineering or its equivalent obtained from any Institution accredited by NBTE and recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS plus a PGD in the relevant field obtained from UNICROSS or any other University recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS.

(viii) Master of Engineering (M.ENG.) in Civil Engineering
Applicants must possess (i) a merit level (3.5 and above CGPA) in Postgraduate diploma in Civil Engineering.
At least a Second Class Honours degree with a minimum of 3.0 in Civil Engineering or any other field of Engineering to qualify for admission in the (M.ENG)) programme.

(ix) Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Mechanical Engineering.
This is open to graduates of the University of Cross River State or any other approved University accepted to the Senate who have obtained a minimum of a Second Class Lower degree in Mechanical Engineering or any other qualification acceptable by the Senate with a CGPA of 3,00 or a Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a CGPA of 3.50.

(x) Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Wood Product Engineering
This is open to graduates of the University of Cross River State or any other approved University accepted to the Senate who have obtained a minimum of a Second Class Lower degree in Mechanical Engineering or any other qualification acceptable by the Senate with a CGPA of 3.00 or a Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a CGPA of 3.50.

(xi) M.Sc. Degree in Accountancy
Besides the modes of entry specified in (B)(i),(ii) and (iii), an MBA (with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 – point scale or 3.0 – on a 5 – point scale in Accountancy may be considered.

(xii) M.Sc. Degree in Finance
The HND, Bachelor’s degree and PGD as specified in the entry requirements (B)(i),(ii) and (iii) may be in Finance, Banking, Accountancy, Economics, Insurance or Actuary Science. MBA in Finance, Banking and Accountancy may also be considered.




(xiii) M.Sc. Degree in Management
The Bachelor’s degree required must be at Second Class, Upper Division level in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Economics or any other related discipline.
Bachelor’s degree at Second Class, Lower Division with a CGPA of 3.00 or higher is accepted. Students with 2.2 will require a PGD in the areas listed above.
MBA in any of the areas listed above may also be considered.

(xiv) M.Sc. Degree in Marketing
The Bachelor’s degree required must be at Second Class, Upper Division level in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Economics or any other related discipline.
Bachelor’s degree at Second Class, Lower Division with a CGPA of 3.00 or higher is accepted. Students with 2.2 will require a PGD in the areas listed above.
MBA in any of the areas listed above may also be considered.

(xv) M.Sc. Degree in Plant Breeding, Public Health, Health Parasitology and
Geospatiolotogy, Plant Pathology/Mycology, Plant Biotechnology and Environmental Microbiology/Public Health, microbiology Animal and Environmental Biology
The Bachelor’s degree, HND and PGD as specified in the entry requirements (B)(i), (ii) and (iii) may be in Biology, Botany Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or any other related subject.

(xvi) M.Sc. degree in Pure Physics, Solid State Physics, Geo-Physics/
Environmental Physics
The HND, Bachelor’s degree and PGD as specified in the general entry requirements (B)(i), (ii) and (iii)) may be in Physics or any related Physical Sciences and Engineering.

(xvii) MASTERS OF SCIENCE (M.SC) IN CHEMISTRY
Admission is open to graduates of the University of Cross River State and graduates of other Universities and Institutions of higher learning recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS, who hold B. SC and their equivalents in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Education Chemistry Chemical Engineering, Science Laboratory Technology and related fields and graduated with at least Second Class Honours degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 or five (5) point count or 2.75 on a four (4) point.

(xviii) MASTERS OF SCIENCE (M. SC.) In BIOCHEMISTRY
Admission is open to UNICROSS graduates and graduates of other Universities and Institutions of higher learning recognized by the Senate of UNICROSS who graduated with at least a Second Class Honours degree or its equivalents in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology or other related fields with a CGPA of not less than 3.0 and 5.0point scale.

(xix) MASTERS OF SCIENCE (M.SC.) in COMPUTER SCIENCE
Candidates should possess at least a Second Class Degree, (Lower Division) in Computer Science from UNICROSS or any recognized Institution. Third Class or HND (Upper Division) with a PGD in Computer Science at Credit Level pass 3.0 on 5.0 scale from any recognized Institution.

(xx) Masters of Technology in Urban and Regional Planning
Candidates eligible to apply are holders of first degree with honours in Urban and Regional Planning and other related disciplines with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division from the University of Cross River State or from any other University recognized by UNICROSS Senate, Holders of Postgraduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning or Landscape Planning Technology.

(xxi) Masters of Technology (M. Tech.) in Estate Management
Candidates with the following qualifications are eligible to apply: (i) Minimum of Second Class Honours degree in Estate Management or Real Estate or Land Economics. (ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Estate Management.

C. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D) PROGRAMMES

(i) Ph. D Degree in Agriculture
A good Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree in any field of agriculture or any of the related subject disciplines (Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Genetics and Breeding, etc.) with eligible average scores not less than 60% or CGPA not less that 4.0 at the Master’s degree level. In all cases, only holders of Bachelor’s degrees in Animal Science/Animal Health can be admitted into the Ph.D programme in Animal Science.

(ii) Ph.D. Degree in Plant Breeding, Parasitology Microbiology and Animal and environmental Biology
A good Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Plant Breeding, Parasitology and Applied Microbiology, with eligible scores of not less than 60% or CGPAs of not less than 4.0 at the master’s degree level, or a good Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biology (with eligible average scores of not less than 60% or CGPAs of not less than 4.0 at the Master’s degree level), but with a PGD in any of the following: Plant Breeding, Parasitology and Applied Microbiology.

(iii) Ph. D Degree In Statistics
A good Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Statistics with eligible average scores of not less than 60% or CGPA of not less than 4.0 at the Master’s Degree level, OR a good Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Mathematics (with an eligible average score of not less than 60% or CGPAs of not less than 4.0 at the Master’s degree level plus a PGD in Statistics.




FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

Ph.D in Mass Communication
This programme shall be open to applicants with M.A, M.Sc. M.Phil degree in Mass Communication or Journalism with not less than 3.50 CGPA from any recognized University.

FACULTY OF EDUCATION

Ph.D in Educational Management
Admission shall be open to candidates who hold the M. Ed (Educational Management) degree from any University of repute with a minimum of 4.00 CGPA or 60%.

Ph.D in Guidance and Counselling Education
Candidates must have M.Ed degree in the area of specialization in education with a minimum of 4.00 CGPA or 60%.

Ph.D Science Education
Candidates must have M. Ed degree in the area of specialization in education with a minimum of 4.00 CGPA or 60%.

Ph.D in Philosophy of Education
Candidates must have M.Ed degree in the area of specialization in education with a minimum of 4.00 CGPA or 60%

FACULTY OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

Ph.D. in Estate Management
Holders of a good M. Sc. Degree in Estate Management with CGPA of not less than 60%.

Ph.D in Architecture
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Architecture or related field with a CGPA of at least 3.5 on a 5-point scale from a recognized Institution of higher learning.

Ph.D in Urban and Regional Planning
Candidates shall be a Master’s degree holder in Urban and Regional Planning-related discipline from any recognized University with weighted average score of 60% or B grade or a CGPA or 3.50 and for a 5-point grade system and 3.00 for a 4-point grade system.

Ph.D in Visual Arts
Candidates must have had a 60% or (a B grade minimum) at the Masters level in a related discipline from any University of repute with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 scale along with their application forms. Candidates to submit a research proposal of not more than five 5 pages defining the title, description, statement of the problem, objective, methodology, and expected outcome in a working bibliography.

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING

Ph.D in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
The Minimum entry requirement for Ph. D programme is a good Masters degree or its equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with a CGPA of 3,00 on a 4point scale or 3.50 on a 5point scale or an M. Phil degree in Electrical Electronics Engineering obtained from the University of Cross River State or any other recognized University.

FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES#

Ph.D in Accountancy
A good M. Sc degree in Accountancy and/or Accounting with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale from the University of Cross River State or any other recognized University. A candidate must score not less than 60% (of B grade) in his or her Master’s thesis.

Ph.D in Finance
A good M Sc. degree in Finance or Banking and Finance with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5-point grade system from the University of Cross River State or any other University. The candidate should not score less than 60% (B grade) in his/her Master’s thesis.

Ph.D in Management
Ph. D in Management entry requirement is a good M. Sc degree in Management with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale from the University of Cross River State or any other recognized University. A candidate should score not less than 60.

Ph.D in Marketing
Ph. D in Management entry requirement is a good M. Sc degree in Management with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale from the University of Cross River State or any other recognized University. A candidate should score not less than 60.

FACULTY OF SCIENCE

Ph.D in Physics
Ph.D Candidates must be Master’s degree holders (or equivalent) in Physics, Geophysics, Meteorology or other relevant subjects from any recognized University, provided they satisfy the general admission requirements of the Graduate School.

DURATION OF PROGRAMMES

Postgraduate Programmes are undertaken either Full-time or Part-time. Full-time Master’s degree Programmes are run for a minimum period of one year and a maximum period of two years. Ph. D is for a minimum period of three years and a maximum period of six years. Part-time Master’s degree Programmes are undertaken at a minimum period of two years and a maximum period of four years. Ph.D programmes are taken at a minimum period of six years and a maximum period of six years. All Postgraduate Programmes begin with classroom coursework and end with project work for Postgraduate Diplomas or theses/dissertations for Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.




(A) Full-Time Studies

The duration for full-time studies varies depending on the nature of the programme:

(i) Post Graduate Diplomas:
For any of the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes, a registered candidate shall spend a minimum of 12 calendar months (one academic session) and not more than 24 months within which period he/she will be expected to satisfy all the requirements for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma. However, for Professional PGD in Landscape Planning and Urban and Regional Planning, the minimum is 18 months and not more than 27 months.

(ii) Master of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, Master of Education, Master of Engineering, and Master of Technology Degrees: For any of the listed Masters’ Programmes, a registered candidate shall spend a minimum of 18 calendar months and not more than 24 months within which period he/she will be expected to satisfy all the requirements for the award of the Master’s Degree.

(B) PART-TIME STUDIES

The duration for Part time studies takes much longer than the full-time programmes. In all cases, part time studies are expected to run for at least one and a half times the minimum period that is stipulated for equivalent full time studies.
All Students applying for Part-Time admission should indicate boldly on the Form and Envelop: PART-TIME ADMISSION.
Note: all admission forms for Masters, MPhil and Ph.D and must be concept notes containing an overview of the area of their Research.




METHOD OF APPLICATION

Prospective applicants should log in to www.crutech.edu.ng and browse the available courses, options and requirements before making any payments.
Interested candidates are required to obtain the application forms using the following guidelines:

• Pay the sum of Twenty thousand naira (N20,000.00) only at Zenith Bank PLC, 34 Chamley Street, Calabar. Please note that UNICROSS will not be liable for any payment made into any account in any other than the designated Bank.
• Prospective candidates shall be required thereafter to approach The Postgraduate School, UNICROSS, where they exchange their Bank Tellers (indicating the payment of the prescribed non-refundable application fees) for UNICROSS official receipts that will entitle them to collect Application Forms, and Transcript Request Forms.
• Applicants are advised to dispatch the Transcript Request Forms to their former Institution/Universities and to complete the Application Forms properly to meet submission requirements:
• Applicants are advised to ensure that each Application Form is accompanied with the following document:

1. Evidence of payment of the N20,000.00 (non-refundable application fee) for the purchase of the Application Form at the bank (Clean photocopy of UNICROSS receipts);
2. Three completed Referee Report Forms (at least one from the candidate’s former institution and/or present employer). No Application Forms shall be considered without the three completed Referees’ reports;
3. Photocopies of the qualifying Certificates, including the O’level Certificates. Original Certificates must be presented for sighting/screening on admission. Awaiting results are not admissible;
4. Transcript(s) from your former Institutions/Universities. No Application Forms shall be considered without the Transcript of the candidate;
5. Your National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge Certificate or Exemption Letter;
6. Evidence of Release (EOR) by your Employer. ( For candidates who are workers, but are applying for full-time studies).
7. Permission to undertake a Programme of Study by your employer for candidates who are workers but are applying for part-time studies
