CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – Former Special Assistant to former Governor Ben Ayade, Ursula Agbor, has demanded a retraction, apology and removal of an article published on the Converseer website via the following link: (https://converseer.com/scandal-rocks-cross-river-as-ex-governors-aide-caught-in-a-web/)

She made the demands through her solicitors, Obono, Obono & Associates, via a letter signed by its Principal Partner, Chief Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla, and sent electronically (email) to Converseer on Sunday, 14th September 2025.

The letter claimed that Converseer’s publication (link above) contains “several false, malicious, and defamatory imputations…portraying her in a scandalous and criminal light without justification or lawful basis.”

It was further noted that a formal complaint will be lodged with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) as well as legal proceedings, if the publication is not retracted, removed and a formal apology published within the next 24 hours of receiving the letter.

Below is the letter in full:

“Subject: Urgent Demand for Retraction and Apology – Defamatory Publication Against Miss Ursula Onah Agbor

Dear Editor,

We are Solicitors to Miss Ursula Onah Agbor, a respected broadcaster with the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation and former Special Assistant to His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Nigeria.

Our attention has been drawn to a publication on your platform titled “Scandal rocks Cross River as ex-Governor’s aide caught in a web”, published on or about 13th September 2025, and accessible via the following link: [https://share.google/oLalJwrHUICYM2TVJ].

The said article contains false, malicious, and defamatory imputations against our client, portraying her in a scandalous and criminal light. This publication amounts to cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and defamation under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and has caused her considerable emotional distress, reputational damage, and professional embarrassment.

TAKE NOTICE that unless the following actions are taken within twenty-four (24) hours of your receipt of this email:

1. Immediate removal of the said publication from your website and all affiliated platforms;

2. A written and prominently published apology to our client on your homepage and social media handles;

3. A written undertaking that such defamatory content will not be published against our client in the future;

We shall, without further notice, proceed to:

– Lodge a formal complaint with the Inspector General of Police and relevant cybercrime enforcement agencies;

– Institute legal proceedings against your organization in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeking substantial damages for defamation, emotional distress, and reputational injury.

This email serves as a final warning. We trust you will act swiftly and responsibly to mitigate the consequences of your unlawful conduct.

Yours sincerely,
Chief Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla

(For: Miss Ursula Onah Agbor).”

Letter ends.

Converseer categorically states that first, the publication was published two months ago and not on 13th September 2025, as stated by the above letter. Secondly, everything in the publication was the statements, comments, interviews, etc, of the parties involved (a video is embedded at the end).

However, our lawyers have been notified about the letter.
