A vehicle being chased by Cross River Government Task Force has hit and killed a Secondary School student in Calabar.

CONVERSEER gathered that the ugly incident happened on Monday afternoon around Calabar Road by Total.

According to an eyewitness who spoke under anonymity, “The task force team was chasing the haulage vehicle for whatever reasons and on running away, the driver rammed into the Student of Hope Waddel Training Institution, who was returning from school.

“The student, likely in SS1, died on the spot. They took him to the General Hospital at Mary Slessor to deposit his Corps but there was no space and so they referred them to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

“At the UCTH, where they deposited the corpse, the father of the Student was hellbent on killing himself.”

Efforts to reach out to the task force head for comment proved abortive as we could not identify the name of the team nor its subhead.

CONVERSEER reports that there are several subheads collecting revenue daily in the state, especially in Calabar.

This is just one of many cases of task force vs driver conflicts, which has resulted in death. The other was during the administration of former Governor Ben Ayade when DOPT officials killed a commercial driver at Calabar Road by Total.
