Super Falcons midfielder, Christy Ucheibe, has promised that Justine Madugu’s side will give their best against Zambia and try to get through the group stage.

Ucheibe spoke following Nigeria’s 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, fixture on Tuesday night.

“I’m going to say it’s football. Nothing went wrong; both teams played very well, and that’s just football for you. You lose, you win, or you draw. But either way, you bounce back,” Ucheibe told Victor Ademola.

“In the next game against Zambia, we will try our best to get through this phase so we can qualify for the World Cup and defend our title.”

DAILY POST reports that Malawi produced one of the biggest shocks in WAFCON history by beating record champions Nigeria in their Group C opener at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

The Scorchers stunned the 10-time WAFCON champions with three second-half goals from Temwa Chawinga and her sister Tabita Chawinga.

Nigeria responded through a Rasheedat Ajibade penalty and a late goal from Uchenna Kanu, but the Super Falcons could not complete the comeback.

The result means Nigeria sits in third position in Group C with zero points and minus one goal difference.

Nigeria’s next match is against Zambia on Saturday.
