The five dismissed police officers standing trial over the alleged extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Warri musician Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Million, have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The defendants appeared before the Delta State High Court in Asaba on Tuesday, where the court fixed July 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
Among the defendants is former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu, who is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of the young musician.
The four other dismissed officers were separately charged with negligent acts causing harm. Each of them also pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before the court.
Following the pleas, Justice M. Nduka adjourned the case until July 14, 2026, when both the prosecution and the defence are expected to begin presenting their evidence.
Leading the prosecution, Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), said the state is fully prepared for the trial. He expressed confidence that the judicial process would ensure justice is served.
The case concerns the alleged extrajudicial killing of OG Million, whose death sparked widespread public concern and renewed calls for accountability within Nigeria’s law enforcement system.
Under Section 36(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), every person charged with a criminal offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court. The trial will determine the facts based on the evidence presented by both sides.
As legal proceedings move forward, the case is expected to remain under close public scrutiny. The outcome will depend on the evidence presented before the court and the judgment of the trial judge.
