Women Parliament Laud Otu’s Wife For Giving Succor To Street Children, Expectant Mothers

Cross River State governor’s wife, Her Excellency, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu, has received commendation from members of the Cross River State Women Parliament on her efforts at ameliorating the hardship faced by expectant mothers and street children – describing it as laudable and unprecedented.

The commendation was made in a motion moved by the Leader of the Cross River State Women Parliament, Rt. Hon. Patricia Ikpai, member representing Abi State constituency and supported by six other representatives.

In her motion, Hon. Ikpai maintained that the Women’s Parliament appreciate the provision of antenatal kits for expectant mothers across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State, relocation of “street children” in Calabar, outreaches to schools and construction of a modern kitchen at the Calabar Correctional Centre among others, through Her Excellency, Reverend Mrs Otu’s pet project, “HUMANITY WITHOUT BORDERS”.

The motion which was co-sponsored by six members and supported by several others referred to Reverend Mrs Otu’s pet project, “HUMANITY BEYOND BORDERS” as a lifesaver for women, the girl child and youths within a short period of four months in office as mother of Cross Riverians.

The Women Parliament added that Her Excellency succeeded in giving hope to the vulnerable and also reducing crime among school-age children.

On her part, the Deputy Speaker of the Women Parliament, Hon. Sarah David, a member representing Obudu, said Her Excellency has a heart of gold and is a true mother who should emulated and encouraged by others.

The Speaker of the Cross River State Women Parliament, Rt. Hon. Fiona Ekpenyong who said Her Excellency, Reverend Mrs Eyoawan Otu is ‘God sent’ and a pathfinder for the Cross River State Woman lauded her attributes and assured Her Excellency of the Parliament’s unflinching support.

The Speaker directed that the position of The Cross River State Women Parliament should be communicated appropriately by the Clerk, Gertrude Effiom.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Edema Irom, in a goodwill message, commended members of the Women’s Parliament for successfully holding her inaugural plenary and charged her members to be supportive of all women-related activities.

In a related development, the Speaker of the Cross River State Women Parliament has inaugurated the Chairmen and members of twelve house committees, charging them to acquaint themselves with their oversight responsibilities and thereby, commence activities.
