A young man identified as Comrade Aruku Richard Monkom aka Eze Mmo has embarked on a journey via trekking from Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja to meet Senator Jarigbe Agom.
CONVERSEER gathered that Monkom started the journey at exactly 8:45am on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, at the Federal College of Education, FCE Obudu, en route to Abuja to meet Jarigbe, the Senator representing Cross River Northern Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
According to a source, Peter Ayim, Monkom embarked on the 474.9km journey to present a gift to Jarigbe.
Meanwhile, Monkom, while embarking on the journey said, “My purpose for this journey is to show my appreciation for Senator Jarigbe’s outstanding leadership and service to the people of Cross River North Senatorial District and the State in general.”
CONVERSEER further gathered that Monkom arrived in Markudi, Benue State capital on Wednesday night and spent a night there.
“Comrade Aruku Richard Monkom slept over at Makurdi with a friend and left this morning (21 March 2024) at exactly 6:30am to continue his trekking towards Abuja to meet with Distinguished Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe,” Ayim said.
This is not the first time people have trekked long distances for politicians in Nigeria. The other was a man who trekked from Lagos to Abuja for former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The most recent being that of Agbor Joseph Ejini, who trekked from Obudu to Calabar in November 2023 to meet with the State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey.
CONVERSEER reports that Odey rewarded Ejini with one million naira (N1 million) for his boldness.
