Hon. Erasmus Ekpang’s life journey is a testament to the power of dedication, education, and unwavering commitment.

Born on October 1, 1974, into the esteemed family of Late Chief Barrister Thomas and Mrs Priscilla E. N. Ekpang in Obubra-Bansan Osokom, in Ogep Ward, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria, Ekpang has emerged as a remarkable figure known for his multifaceted achievements and contributions across various fields.

Education has been the cornerstone of Ekpang’s success. He began his academic journey at the University of Calabar, where he earned a Diploma in Environmental Management (Education) in 1997. Undeterred by challenges, he pursued further studies, attaining a BSc (Hons) in Geography and Regional Planning in 2000. His thirst for knowledge continued, leading him to achieve an MSc in Geography and Environmental Science, specialising in Population, Environment, and Development in 2019. Presently, he is furthering his academic pursuits with a PhD in Geography and Environmental Science.

Erasmus Ekpang’s professional trajectory is as diverse as it is impressive. His experience as a Sales Manager at Car Link from 2003 to 2005 showcased his prowess in business. However, his true passion seemed to lie at the intersection of politics and social impact. He served as MD/CEO at Deskha Nig. Ltd from 2011 to 2015, while actively participating in various political campaigns and support groups.

His political engagement has been marked by notable roles. In 2003, Erasmus coordinated Youths for Donald Duke in Diaspora, showcasing his dedication to political causes. His support extended to Vision 2007 in favour of Liyel Imoke, where he served as Deputy Coordinator. His contributions culminated in his coordination of the Coalition of Patriotic Democrats, supporting President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2011.

Beyond politics, Ekpang’s commitment to his community and the environment has been remarkable. His roles as Community Relations Officer for Boki II to former Governor Ben Ayade from 2015 to 2019 and Secretary of the Anti-deforestation Taskforce Cross River State from July to November 2019, underline his focus on environmental concerns. His impact extended to Senior Special Assistant (SSA) for Waste Management in Cross River State in 2020 and membership in the Governor’s Special Taskforce on Quarries in Cross River State.

One of his most influential positions was serving as the Director-General of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2021. Ekpang’s leadership skills and dedication found another outlet when he was elected as the State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State in October 2021, a role he held with distinction.

On August 16, 2023, Erasmus Ekpang was sworn in as Cross River State Commissioner for Information by Governor Bassey Otu, alongside 30 others.

Ekpang’s accomplishments haven’t gone unnoticed. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and certifications, a reflection of his dedication and impact. Awards such as the “Most Outstanding Entrepreneur Dependable Leader and Youngest Human Empowerment Award” in 2016, and the “Pan Africa Award” in recognition of Outstanding Achievement and Commitment to Advancement of Good Governance in Africa stand as tokens of his exceptional work.

His participation as a National Delegate to the United Nations Climate Change COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021 highlights his commitment to global causes.
