Ex-Cross River Attorney General Tanko Ashang is dead

The former Attorney General of Cross River State, Tanko Ashang SAN, has passed on.

CONVERSEER learned that Ashang died on Tuesday morning, 8th October.

Though the cause of his death is yet to be ascertained, however, Ashang’s professional colleagues confirmed his death to CrossRiverWatch.

Ashang, native of Bishiri in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State, served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state from November 2019 to May 2023.

Ashang who also served briefly as the State’s Commissioner for Works between March and May 2015, is a child of HRH Uchua Moses Ashang, former Paramount Ruler of Obanliku.

He was an aspirant for the 2015 governorship election in the state under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was won by former Governor Ben Ayade.

He was called to the bar in 1993 and elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 29th September 2022 and is listed at number 725 in the order of elevation of Senior Advocates.

He served in different capacities at the Federal Civil Service of the federation and was the Legal Adviser to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) before his resignation to contest the guber primaries of the PDP in 2014.
