OSUN GUBER: Major blow for Gov Adeleke as Accord Party withdraws support, campaigns for APC

The re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osin State has been dealt a major blow, as the national National Chairman of his party, Accord Party, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has announced the withdrawal of the party’s support for him.

He subsequently endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s election.

Imumolen made the declaration on Thursday at the APC Osun State Governorship Mega Rally in Osogbo, where he said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had resolved to support Oyebamiji.

He urged members of the Accord Party across the state to vote for Oyebamiji and the APC in the August 15 governorship election.

Imumolen said the decision followed the party’s inability to mobilise its members for its planned mega rally, which was suspended amid an internal crisis.

“As Chairman of the Accord Party, and with all our National Working Committee members here present, we withdraw our support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and support AMBO.

“All our members are enjoined to vote for AMBO and the APC in Saturday’s election,” he said.

The endorsement came a day after the Accord Party suspended its mega rally scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

At the rally, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, said the APC was on the verge of victory, urging Osun residents to align with the Federal Government by joining the states governed by the party.

Uzodinma said the presence of APC governors at the rally demonstrated their solidarity with the party’s candidate and called on voters to support Oyebamiji.

Oyebamiji, while addressing supporters, pledged to run a people-oriented administration focused on improving the welfare of residents and delivering tangible dividends of democracy.

He said his administration would prioritise good governance and the welfare of the people, stressing that the era of politics without corresponding impact on citizens must end.

“Our government that will be elected on August 15, 2026, will be a government of the people, and we will stand on your mandate.

“No dance anymore, but strict governance. I have the mandate to touch the lives of the people of Osun,” he said.
