A remarkable young student from Southern British High School, Calabar, Ryan-Etim Bassey, has brought pride and honour to Cross River State after emerging as a Silver Award recipient in the prestigious 2026 Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition.

The achievement was recognised by the Royal Commonwealth Society, following the assessment and recommendation of the competition’s panel of judges.

Bassey’s outstanding performance in the international writing competition is a testament to the growing depth of literary talent among young Nigerians and, particularly, students in Cross River State.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition provides young people across the Commonwealth with an opportunity to express their creativity, imagination and perspectives through writing. Securing a Silver Award in such a competitive international platform is therefore a significant accomplishment.

The young award recipient was celebrated by Southern British High School, Calabar, which described the achievement as a reflection of his talent, creativity and dedication.

Bassey’s achievement serves as an inspiration to other young students to cultivate the culture of reading, writing, creativity and intellectual excellence.

His Silver Award demonstrates that with the right encouragement, mentorship and educational environment, young Nigerians can compete successfully and distinguish themselves on prestigious international platforms.
Parents, teachers, school administrators and the wider

Cross River community have every reason to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment.
