Elias Abua Ojie, 11 Others To Be Elevated to Court of Appeal

By Our Reporter

Elias Abua Ojie, a Cross River-born jurist, has been recommended among 12 other judges for elevation to the Court of Appeal, in a move seen as both a national judicial development and a boost for representation from the state.

The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) put forward the names as priority candidates for consideration by the National Judicial Council (NJC), which holds the constitutional authority to review and approve such appointments.

Justice Abua, who hails from Obudu in Cross River State, is among notable figures on the list, alongside other prominent jurists including James Omotosho.

Although the full list is yet to be officially released, the recommendations are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Court of Appeal of Nigeria and improve the efficiency of the country’s judicial system.

Legal observers say the proposed elevations are timely, especially as the appellate court continues to face increasing caseloads and pressure to deliver faster judgments across the federation.

If approved by the NJC, the appointments would not only reshape the composition of the Court of Appeal but also enhance regional representation within the judiciary, with Cross River State gaining visibility through Justice Ubua’s nomination.
