The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has carried out a precision airstrike on a suspected gathering of ISWAP fighters in Yaganari, Borno State, as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations in the North-East.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Friday, citing military sources.
According to the report, the operation followed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) that tracked suspected insurgents moving toward a larger assembly in the Yaganari area.
The sources said aerial surveillance first spotted four suspected terrorists, two of whom were later observed moving toward an unidentified location, leading operators to a larger group of about 12 suspected ISWAP fighters gathered beneath a tree.
Following target confirmation, a precision airstrike was launched at about 12:32 a.m., hitting the suspected gathering.
A preliminary battle damage assessment reportedly indicated that an unconfirmed number of the suspected terrorists were killed, while others fled the area.
The report added that aerial surveillance continued after the strike to monitor the fleeing suspects and identify opportunities for follow-up operations.
Military authorities, according to the report, described the strike as part of sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities, degrading insurgent capabilities and supporting ground troops under Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East.
