5 Arrested For Robbing Hotels, POS Operators In Calabar

Five young men between the ages of 15-25 have been arrested for allegedly robbing hotels and Point of Sale, POS Operators in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

The suspects, CONVERSEER reports were arrested on Wednesday by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.

According to the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Charles Brown, the five-man robbery gang has been terrorising parts of the Calabar Metropolis, especially Calabar South.

Brown said the suspects were arrested in the early hours of the day following an intelligent report.

He, however, noted that the leader of the gang was still at large, stressing that the suspects were arrested at various locations with criminal charms, arms and ammunition, and several other items.

The NSCDC Commandant gave the names of the arrested suspects to include, Gospel Otu, age 25; Mohammed Abdulahi, age 18; Paul Edem, age 19; Miracle Augustin, age 15; and Rex Okokon, age 22.

Brown noted further that two of the suspects confessed to committing the crimes, stressing that, “they would be handed over to the police upon completion of investigation.

“They had recently robbed a hotel in Calabar South where their faces were captured by the CCTV mounted in the hotel.

“We also traced them to a phone they stole in the hotel. We have been on them for some time now and just this morning, we appended one of them who took us to roundup the four others. As we speak, their gang leader is still at large but we will get him.”

The NSCDC Commandant vowed that the Corps in collaboration with other sister security agencies in the State would make Cross River uninhabitable for criminals.

He appealed to the people of the State to always provide security agencies with relevant information to stamp out crimes from the State.
