The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board has firmly dismissed allegations that its Executive Chairman is demanding ₦2 million from contractors in exchange for contract award letters, describing the claims as false, malicious, and misleading.
In a press statement dated April 17, 2026, and signed by the Executive Chairman, Mrs Fedelia Okpo Ene, the Board said the allegation does not reflect its commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process in contract administration.
According to the statement, neither the Executive Chairman nor any authorised official of the Board has at any time requested or approved such payments from contractors or members of the public. It stressed that all procurement processes are conducted strictly in line with established laws and through legitimate, verifiable channels.
The Board urged contractors, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the circulating claims, noting that they are baseless and intended to mislead unsuspecting individuals.
CR-SUBEB also raised alarm over the activities of fraudsters impersonating its officials to extort money, warning that such actions constitute criminal offences.
It cautioned that anyone found spreading false information, impersonating officials, or attempting to collect money under the guise of facilitating contract awards would be reported to security agencies and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Board further encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious requests or encounters through its official communication channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to integrity and service delivery, CR-SUBEB assured stakeholders that it would continue to uphold fairness and transparency in executing its mandate in the education sector.
