LAGOS (CONVERSEER) – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a significant drug shipment disguised as green tea, alongside a series of nationwide crackdowns resulting in multiple arrests and major drug seizures.
The agency on June 5, 2025, seized 66 parcels of Loud – a potent strain of cannabis – disguised as green tea at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The 62.2kg consignment, which originated from Thailand and transited through the UAE on an Emirates flight, was discovered after three weeks of surveillance based on credible intelligence.
In a separate bust in Lagos on June 2, NDLEA operatives intercepted a 1,665kg load of skunk cannabis along the Lekki-Ajah expressway, arresting two suspects, Gidado Abdulrasaq Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi.
Further arrests were made in Kaduna State on June 3, where officers apprehended 29-year-old Goodluck Nnaemeka in possession of 612 bottles of codeine-based syrup and nearly 3,000 flunitrazepam pills. That same day, a long-wanted drug trafficker, Kabiru Musa (alias KB), was arrested in Kurmin Mashi after a prior seizure of 25.7kg of skunk at his hideout.
In Edo State, NDLEA officers recovered 9kg of Loud hidden in the spare tyre compartment of a vehicle and arrested two young women – Favour Joy and Joy Igwe – at Ikpoba Hill in Benin City. They were found with a large cache of drugs, including 106.57kg of skunk, 1kg of Loud, 800g of Colorado, and 302g of methamphetamine.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, praised the agency’s officers for their dedication to curbing drug trafficking and promoting public education.
