UNICAL appoints Dr Ikutal Ajigo as Quality Assurance Deputy Director

The University of Calabar, UNICAL has appointed Dr Ikutal Ajigo as its Quality Assurance Deputy Director.

The approval, according to a letter signed by the Registrar of the University, Gabriel Egbe, was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi.

According to Egbe, the appointment is for two years for the first instance, with effect from 1 April 2024.

“The Vice-Chancellor tasked Ajigo to bring his wealth of experience to bear in the administration of the office.

“He is also expected to report to the Director of Quality Assurance for a smooth taking over from his predecessor.

“On this note, all the sections of the University are to accord him the necessary recognition and support,” the letter stated.

About Dr Ajigo Ikutal

Dr Ajigo Ikutal was born on the 10th day of November, 1970 to the family of Mr & Mrs Ikutal Monday both from Ibil in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria.

He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1979 from St Michael’s Primary School Ibil-Ogoja and proceeded to Mary Knoll College Okuku-Ogoja where he obtained his West African Examination Certificate in 1984.

Dr Ikutal gained admission into the University in 1989 where he graduated as an Agricultural Educator in 1994. In 2003, he gained admission into the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria where he graduated in 2005 with a Master’s degree in Agricultural Education. That same year he was admitted for a Ph.D. programme at the same University where he graduated in 2010.

Ikutal started his work career in 1996 at the Cross River State College of Education Akamkpa as an Assistant Lecturer and grew up to the rank of Senior Lecturer. His desire to become a professor and to contribute more meaningfully to the growth of humanity made him leave the college in 2014 for the University of Calabar as Lecturer 1 where he is lecturing to date.

Dr Ajigo Ikutal has held several positions and responsibilities during his work career, some of which are two times Head of Department, Sub-Dean, two times Chairman of the departmental graduate board, Welfare Officer of Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Calabar Branch (ASUU-UCB), Secretary of Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Calabar Branch (ASUU-UCB), Deputy Sandwich Coordinator amongst others.

Dr Ajigo Ikutal has several articles in reputable and high-impact journals both local and international. He also has several book chapters to his credit and has attended several conferences.
